Okay now let’s dive in…..

Wedding Planner

First things first, to hire a wedding planner or not to hire a wedding planner. This is always a tricky decision and totally depends on your personality (do you like working with others and have other people handle some of your important tasks/ decisions?) and on your overall budget. Now, with a planner, there are multiple options most give you to choose from. For example, you can do a full service year long package, a 6 month package, 3 month, month of the wedding or just hire them for the day of. Now, if i’m being completely honest…I had a planner for the duration of the wedding planning (and remember i’m a covid bride, so it turned into a long journey together haha) having the planner was sooo helpful, but also I loved wedding planning so I definitely had my hand in every single decision along the way and probably could have been fine without a planner, but it was really nice knowing I had someone else fully invested in my wedding to help me out! … I love my husband but some of the wedding decisions went way over his head haha I needed a professional.

The reason I think a wedding planner is necessary for at least a few months before your wedding is so that they can really get to know you, your significant other and your visions for wedding weekend. That way if anything goes wrong (because things will go wrong) you have someone who knows exactly what you would want done and can handle it without having to bother you while you are celebrating. They also know what to look for in vendor contracts and what prices should be at each vendor so that part is extremely helpful too!

The Venue

Picking a venue can be tough, especially when you think you have your heart set on somewhere but it turns out it’s well outside of your budget or the dates you want aren’t available. Please trust me when I say, everything works out for a reason and forcing a venue to work when all signs point to NO isn’t your answer. My best advice would be to have a vision in mind, but be open to seeing options and going with the flow, even if it’s something different than you might have imagined. Have a list of some of your non negotiable’s but then find wiggle room for the rest of it! Your weekend is going to be perfect no matter where you have it, so don’t think you have to spend ridiculous amounts of money on just the venue (believe me, you’re going to want to save some of that budget for the vendors coming your way).

Choosing Vendors

This is where a wedding planner and a venue that at least shares a similar vibe/aesthetic to you comes in handy. They will have preferred vendor lists to recommend to you (aka people they have working with before and trust). I would also suggest searching through instagram and TikTok, find inspo that you like by searching hashtags or influencers you love and finding the tags for their photographers, florists, rental companies etc….don’t worry I will list all of my faves below! Again, my advice would be not to exceed your budget on your vendors. You do not need to spend 10k on a photographer or even on your florals. I don’t care what anyone says, minimal is beautiful for not only the aesthetic of your wedding, but also for your wallet. While you want this day to be magical, you don’t want to be stressing about money immediately after your wedding weekend ends. So when you start feeling like you neeeeeeeed to work with that insanely expensive florist/photographer/or someone else, think about if that will really make or break your celebrations and maybe try to find a cheaper option. I promise you, these costs add up so be picky where you choose to spend!

Planning Bridal Outfits

Google searching, Instagram (and my outfit guides) are your best friends during this process. If you know you can get fully refunded for an outfit, I say order everything so you can see it on your body. Sometimes outfits look totally different online then they do in person. Start planning outfits a few weeks or months before the events so you aren’t stressing as your events get closer. Stick to who you are and what your personal style already is, just elevate it with some white bridal pieces — like jeans and a white beaded top with a cute heel or a white converse with a casual dress, you get the point….have fun with this part!!

Wedding Weekend

There is a lot going on when wedding weekend approaches. Again, this is where a wedding planner is clutch because they are going to put together a weekend timeline for you and checklists to help keep you on track. Remember that by this point, you’ve done all of the hard work, it’s now time for you to relax and enjoy with your partner. Exactly one week before the wedding, Mike and I decided that we were done stressing and were going to start enjoying…this is the best advice I can give you. Start enjoying BEFORE your weekend approaches, because at that point you’re in the whirlwind and you’ve missed so much already. Tell yourself you are done stressing and you have now entered enjoyment mode ONE FULL WEEK before the wedding…I have given this advice to friends that got married after us and they said it made such a difference. They were able to enjoy all of those days leading up to the wedding which made the actual rehearsal and wedding day sooo much more relaxing and didn’t feel like they flew by as much since they were in a much more calm state going into it all.

This is such a special time for you, your significant other and your families, do your best to stay present and grounded. Remember that a wedding weekend is a time to celebrate your love for one and other and to express that love you have for each other in front of all of the people that mean the most to you both. The planning and prepping process can get overwhelming at times but keeping in mind what the real purpose of the weekend is, is what makes it the most magical!!
