All of your CBD Questions Answered!

I’m finally answering all of your questions around CBD! Whether you are looking to heal your muscles or feel more calm, relaxed, focused & productive … this post is worth a read. I know it can get confusing distinguishing the difference between CBD and THC plus understanding which brands are worth spending your money on.

What is CBD?

The short answer is that CBD is a molecule found in hemp. It’s like a best friend—it supports you, brings you back to balance when you’re getting a little flustered, and makes you better. The longer answer is that CBD, which stands for cannabidiol, is an active molecule found in cannabis. CBD is just one of many cannabinoids found in the plant (there are over 100!). CBD oil is derived from the cannabis plant secretions, called trichomes.

Are hemp and weed (aka marijuana) the same thing?

No. While marijuana and hemp both contain CBD, marijuana contains over 0.3% THC, which is what gets you loopy. Hemp, on the other hand, contains less than 0.3% THC. Hemp is biodegradable, recyclable, and fibrous, which is what makes it great for making something like clothing. Marijuana is bushier and sprouts flowering buds. Think of hemp as marijuana’s hella smart, worldly, marathon-running cousin. They both contain cannabinoids and terpenes (real power players in the world of phytomedicine), they both contain cannabidiol (CBD), and they both can be beneficial for your overall health and well-being. The real difference? Hemp contains little to no THC which means no psychotropic side effects, i.e. it won’t get you high.

Will you get high?

Nope! All of the Mowellens products in our CBD Facials are made from hemp-derived CBD, and won't get you high. Nothing will come up on a drug test, you won’t smell like weed, and you won’t suddenly crave Cheetos. You will, however, feel your tension melt away, like when you get up from a good massage. Once the facial is over, you’ll realize just how tense the 42 muscles in your face have been.

What does CBD do?

CBD increases hydration and moisture, and helps diminish the appearance of longer-term concerns like lines and wrinkles. CBD is rich in antioxidants and naturally high (we had to) in vitamins A, D, and E. It's also filled with essential fatty acids like omega 3 and G, which are important for the overall health and appearance of skin. CBD is a great addition to skincare routines focused on improving skin texture and diminishing puffiness. It even acts as an optimizer that amplifies the active ingredients of the other products you use, helping them penetrate deeper into the skin. We call it an optimizer for a reason.

How does CBD work its magic in our bodies?

CBD works with an understudied system in the body called the endocannabinoid. This system is made up of receptors located in areas like our brain, stomach, and central nervous system, which are responsible for maintaining our body’s proper function. Like a lock and key, CBD finds areas of the body where we are out of sync and brings the body back to homeostasis or balance.

What if you're pregnant?

When CBD is administered in a topical setting, there isn't enough THC entering the system to be a concern to those who are pregnant. However, if you have any questions, please consult a medical professional.

Can you be allergic to CBD?

As far as we know, no. CBD, in skincare or otherwise, is always accompanied by a carrier (oil, cream, or liquid), which may contain ingredients that you're allergic to. Specific to the products we're using in the CBD Facial, if you have an allergy to honey, avocado, almond, or coconut, we recommend skipping this experience or letting us substitute as needed. As with all allergy concerns, we do our very best to understand common allergies in our ingredients, but always consult a medical professional if you have any concerns.

Is CBD intended for everyday use?

CBD can be used every day, but as with everything, moderation is always good practice.

Can you use too much CBD?

Everyone responds to CBD differently. That said, it isn’t known to build up in your system so there isn't a risk of “too much.” Start with a smaller dose, and increase as needed.

What techniques are used during the facial?

We using the same techniques that Heyday clients have come to love, but dialed up in certain parts to make the most impact. Some relaxing highlights include: CBD oils for massage and a special CBD honey mask that you’ll basically want to lick off your face (and technically can).

What is Mowellens?

Mowellens is a California-based CBD wellness company founded by Amy Duncan, who was the former Chief Operating Officer at a genetics lab and spent her time testing and studying pure cannabis products. In her personal life, she learned first hand about the benefits of cannabis, helping her husband after being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. The mission began to combine her background in the healthcare and biotech industries to develop lab-tested, clean, natural, hemp-derived CBD products that provide results you can see and feel.

Her products and formulas are thoughtful from conception to creation. They’re 100% free from pesticides, additives, synthetic compounds, sulfates, phthalates, parabens, GMOs, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, artificial fragrances and colors, titanium dioxide, and residual solvents. That was a mouthful, but Amy has really put the work in to bring out the benefits of CBD and give consumers a truly pure experience.

Why I work with Mowellens:

Mowellens' dedication to creating the highest quality products, as well as consumer education, aligns with what we believe in at Heyday. There are so many brands out there with CBD products, but the scientific background that founder Amy Duncan brings to the table is unique.
